Upper Salford Township was originally established in 1741 by a partitioning of the provincial colonial township of Salford. However, on February 1, 1892, the township was split almost in half with the northeastern half being renamed Salford Township and the southwestern 8.91 square miles retaining the name Upper Salford. The township has remained for the most an undeveloped area, though some residential development took place over the past several years. A small amount of dairy and crop farming can still be found throughout the township. Three small villages, Salford, Salfordville, and Woxall are the only real identifiable communities in the township. Over the next several years, the township may experience some new housing developments.
