The Collegeville Dam Society has been formed to look at ways to save the old mill dam on the Perkiomen Creek near Collegeville.  Collegeville Borough, the present owner of the dam, has applied for state funding to remove the dam because they do not have sufficient funds for repairs or permanent fish passage facilities, which the state requires.  By destroying the dam, which is the backbone of a well established environment, there will be a loss of upstream scenic resources.  For over a hundred years, the dam has provided recreational opportunities like canoeing and fishing plus a habitat for fish and wildlife.

Why exchange the above photograph for one of mud flats and a trickle of water in the middle?  We are asking that you oppose removal and support saving the dam and we welcome your ideas and support!  We are inquiring about possible sources of funding to municipalities for dam restoration.  Another option might be a power company looking for a place suitable for a small hydrolic  investment.  A proposal is being worked on, asking Collegeville Borough to release the dam to Montgomery County and the dam to be incorporated into the Central Perkiomen Park system.  Please join us.
